Pranayama (expansion of the breath)

Pranayama and its practice

The arteries, veins, and nerves are the channels through which the energy flows into the body. After doing the asanas( poses) the body is free from the obstruction of the flow of the energy. Sometimes the channels are (nadis) are blocked by impurities and if nadis are disturbed one’s true nature can not be discovered.

The practice of Pranayam should not be mechanical. The brain and mind should be kept alert. It is not good to practice by force of will. The practioner should keep the spine straight and mind alert.

The mind( manas) is the ruler of all the sense organs(indriyas) and the breath of the mind. During pranayam eyes should be close and ears very attentive so the mind gets more awareness of the sound , the rhythm of the breath.

Sanskrit yogic language

Most of the ancient yogic texts were written down by yogis in sanskrit language( yoga sutra, hatha yoga pradipika, yoga philosphies). Yogis like Patanjali, Gorakgnath, Matsendranath written those texts hundred of years back. They never wanted that a person practising yoga should fight with himself or herself. The Asana should be very easy & simple. A SADHAK (practioner) may be a beginner or advance should take the pose so he can relax, breathe, meditate in the pose.
Patanjali said " sthir sukham asanam", steady and comfortable should be the posture. Patanjali is not against the body. He says that only in a graceful body a graceful mind exists.

The body is like a musical instrument that has to be rightly tuned.
